I liked this book but I didn’t love it. I think this is one they suffered from booktok hype for me. I’m really enjoying the world building and the character development of Orlaith but I feel like I read almost a 500 page book that told me absolutely NOTHING about the FMC and the MMC. I definitely understand the world, the dark Rapunzel retelling but I don’t know anything about Rhordyn and that really bothers me. I want to like him and im intrigued by him but I need to know something….anything! I own book two so I will be continuing to hopefully get more answers.

I liked this book overall but it was a lot of setup, reading the next to see where the story goes and will likely adjust my rating based on the rest of the series.

This gets better as it goes but it takes a while to get there. I nearly DNF'd it at about 25% but decided to persevere and I'm glad I did. Orlaith is such a complex character. Most of the time, this book is from her point of view but every now and then you get a snippet from someone else's view and it completely changes your opinions on what is happening. I would have given it another star if it had been just a little bit more faster paced.
