it took me a while to finish this up. And now I know why - full on crying. This was too emotionally wrecking.

Orlaith was so refreshing and special as a fantasy female lead and I just feel like this precious woman holds a special place in my heart. And Rhordyn is just major hotness alert. Brooding and hot but secretive and closed up.

But not only the main characters slayed to hell and back. The friendship. The unreturned love. Or not so much. The Rapunzel retelling aspects. The trauma. Healing. The world building and lore.

Amazing start into a very promising fantasy series. Can’t wait to start with the second book!!

This book suprised me, it kept its secrets in a good way.

I will post this review to all three books.

I started reading this series because I needed something quick and light to read in between listening to the audiobook of Babel and reading crime and punishment.

Regarding the first book, it was too confusing. I understand that we needed to stretch the plot to have a long series, but we barely got any information and it was ridiculous. Also I could’ve lived without the grooming aspects of the main ship. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this whole series, there are a lot.

Then there’s the second book, which was a mess. An even bigger mess. I don’t think we can interpret the lack of communication between the love interests as miscommunication because that isn’t a term capable of encompassing this situation. Basically, there’s no plausible reason for why the MMC hid everything from the protagonist, except to stall the plot and stretch the series. Everything could’ve been avoided if he had been open about their situation and their circumstances. I’m sure an ancient being would be able to basic communication skills by now.

Finally, for now, the third book was an even bigger mess. Yes, much to my dismay there will be more books in this series. The villain is a joke. Besides lacking a personality, he’s the poster boy for all “man-children” out there. Honestly, at this point, the main ship just isn’t that good. It goes beyond the toxicity and the grooming. The smut isn’t that good and the way it unfolded doesn’t make sense. Let’s not get started on Kai’s side story.

These books are so non-sensical and the writing is very confusing. Most of the time, I have to go back to re-read parts because the story doesn’t make sense.

Therefore, I am unsure if I will continue with this series in the future. We shall see.

"What a pretty flower to keep locked in a big rocky tower"

I may have finished this book but I'm still just as confused as I was on page 1.

The only reason this book gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the last 30 pages were interesting.  Otherwise this book is extremely confusing and concerning.  There are themes of grooming that made me extremely uncomfortable.

This is one of those books where nothing makes sense, everything is confusing, everyone is morally grey, and I’m OBSESSED.

My first time reading this I read the ebook and gave it 4 ⭐️ and this time through I listened to the audiobook and I’m sticking with my rating. I definitely found it easier to understand some things when listening. Or maybe it was because I had already read it and listening just helped things make more sense. Who’s to say?

I finished the book, barely but I'm not sure I'm too happy about it. Aside form a very questionable and toxic relationship shown in the book, there are several things that infuriate me. There is no world building, we are told to just roll with everything as it's presented, but there is no explanation or background to half of this stuff. I know the book is trying to be spicy, I get it. But why the hell all any context of a scene or it's weight is thrown out of the window the second anything sexual happens? And then when it's finished suddenly the characters remember something horrific just happened, just like that? The main protagonist tries to be independent and capable, but the second the male character even appears she looses her mind...

I'm sorry but this book isn't it, not for me at least.
