I bought the book because I thought the cover was pretty and I heard good things about Abby Jimenez books. I figured why not try a new author for me.
This will be the one and only Abby Jimenez book that I read.
1. The references to ACOTAR are annoying. Imagine reading this book in 20 years and thinking what’s ACOTAR and who’s Rhysand? There are so many unique ways to describe a character. Yet saying that Xavier is like Rhysand is not it. I am not a fantasy reader and have not read ACOTAR. I only know of that series from IG. Due to other references made, this book pretty much has to be read in this year when these things are popular.
2. The number of times it is said how they could not stand long distance is very repetitive. I just felt like there wasn’t enough character development or story telling.
3. The dad cheating on the mom with dementia is GROSS. I did not want to read a book with that in it.
4. I don’t think there was enough character development in the grandma either. When a character dies - I should feel upset. I just didn’t feel upset. I was thinking how random this was.
5. The ending fell very flat and didn’t round out the story well. It was like the author was given a deadline to have this book done so everything is just rushed.
