I was in a terrible reading slump, but Abby Jimenez may have saved the reader season (kind of).

- Jimenez always does such a great job creating realistic portrayals of humans navigating life and relationships.
- The writing is simple and easy to follow, but still full of heart.

- This isn't Jimenez' fault, but every modern romance just always feels so cliche and predictable. Even though this is a realistic portrayal, I still had that feeling.
- We all come for a happy ending, but the constant back and forth of this book bordered on tedious and insufferable. But tis is life!

Samantha and Xavier meet when she brings a kitten in to his veterinarian clinic. They go on one date before she moves across the country to support her family with caring for her mom, with alzheimer's. Neither can forget the other.
The characters in this book were super cute. You wanted them to figure their stuff out, but you could also understand why they couldn't be where the other was. It was hard seeing the challenges in helping Samantha's mom with her alzheimer's.
