Themes of race, domestic abuse, violence and family relationships are explored in this collection of short stories. It proved to be difficult to read at times, given the level of violence and injustice being discussed but I think the most uncomfortable stories are the most important ones to take notice of.

The writing is descriptive yet accessible and I really enjoyed the vibrant imagery which brought the authors culture to life. It gave me insight into a culture other than my own and opened my eyes to experiences I did not previously know a lot about.

10% of the profits of this book are going to the The Immigrant Council of Ireland and it is published by @castlespress, an independent publishing press. I was so fortunate to have received a gifted copy and I am really glad I got the opportunity to read these stories. Not the most comfortable read but educational and eye-opening.

Sometimes I read books and there is so much I could say and so many words that convey my feelings. Sometimes however, and such is the case with this book, words just aren’t enough. This book is heavy, it isn’t heartwarming. It is a difficult read but you MUST read it. If I tried to give you a summary, I wouldn’t do the stories within this book justice. Read it, and you too will understand.
