as a person contemplating these exact questions of motherhood and birth and choosing to have a child, i resonated so deeply with so many parts of this book. as a woman, the most important or interesting thing about you is whether or not you have children and i am someone who doesn't know what i want, much like the narrator of this book. it was deep and profound and asks important questions and writes with real honesty.

Some sentences, paragraphs, and sections of this were insightful and made me stop to think, and I would recommend this book to anyone interested. Yet the vast majority of it is filled with self centered and just flat out unhealthy behavior, which I tried not to judge, as everyone in life makes decisions that to an outsider are obviously unhealthy and self damaging. And I am a big advocate for art that is not positive, and not filled with characters who never make mistakes(perhaps my hang up here is that this is non fiction?). Overall, I appreciated reading the journey she overtook and maybe if I read it again later on in life(perhaps when I am in my late 30s, as she is, I would change my mind.) A book I will be thinking about a lot and that I was motivated to read, but perhaps more a warning for what not to do/think than what to do/think.

some of the most beautifully poetic writing I’ve ever encountered. the narrator makes a lot of interesting observations on motherhood in modern times.

very much a book for women, would encourage all my female friends to read

This book feels like a conversation with the nicest person in the world. It will be a pleasure to return to this conversation time and again in the future.
