Loved this!! More plot and secrets revealed and the best part is Pet's relationship with the three psychos. So fun to read and I loved the drama. Also is there a little something there with JinYeong? I'm kinda sad I'm burning through this so quickly.

I have stayed up late the past three nights reading these books (I'll also be posting my review for the third book here in a minute). The stories are just so addicting and had me "turning" the pages on my ereader long after my body was telling me to go to sleep. The introduction of the don't-call-them-werewolves added a great mystery that was fully separate from the first. However, after reading all three of these back to back, I feel like the second and third books are interwoven in a way that sets them apart from the first. Kind of like watching a pilot episode of a series (if that pilot was actually good) and then finding that the format of the rest of the series is a bit different. And based on the end of book three, it seems as though book four is linked in with these two as well.

And since this review has turned into a review of both book 2 and 3, I guess I will continue with that format. The stories are great, with the characters remaining true to the first, but the structure is a little different in that there are scenes and actions taken by the characters which have nothing to do with the story of the book you are currently reading and will only come to fruition in the next installment of the series. Which holds true for book three, as there are scenes that I know will have to be addressed in book 4.

This change did affect my enjoyment of the story in that I did not like either book as much as the first. I didn't really feel that any of the characters had truly grown from one book to the next. They just exist as they are, with some glimmer of hope that one day they will be better. And I am holding out for that. Because as I mentioned, even with my complaints, I couldn't put these books down. I just hope that I will soon be able to find out what is going to happen with the strange cast of characters Pet appears to now be collecting.

It's hard to review these because I've been listening to them as an easy, fun story that works as a background listen so I'm not really thinking about it in the same way I usually think about most books. I'm clearly enjoying them but couldn't tell you if the story arc makes sense or if the characters are developed well. It must be sufficient for me to not actively take notice that it sucks? Lol what a shining vote of confidence there but I swear I liked it.

Unique

Strictly UF with tons of humor and lots of confusion - it’s a bit hard to follow the Between and Behind, what they really mean and the descriptions, but it’s Sue fun to try. Also, there are jumps in conclusions that baffled, like where did they get THAT from? But it all works out and the hilarious approach even the rough edges and makes this entertaining reading.

With the way the previous book ended, I was itching to get started on this next installment. It was so good, even better than book two and was, quite possibly, my favorite of the series. Nuggets of information were revealed and hinted about which will inevitably lead to more questions to ask and answers to be found. I don't want to say too much because it'd probably all be spoilers. I'll just end by saying, if you're a fan of urban fantasy and haven't started this series, you're missing out! I can't recommend it highly enough. Start with book one and you'll be hooked!

In the third installment of the in between series, our heroine Pet continues with her two fae and vampire. This is a unique urban fantasy with a funny main character.

Don’t start with book 3, this series should be read in order. If you want a different urban fantasy with fae, I would start with the first book of this series.

This book in one sentence: Pet drags Jinn-Yeong and Zero into all kinds of trouble when Athelas goes missing and she is set on finding him.
My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Steaminess: 1/4🌶️
My recommendation: This series is weird and disturbing and lovely all at once. However the overarching narrative of the series is also progressing really slowly. Don't expect a whole lot of answers or resolution in this book. I'm not sure how many books the author is planning for the series, but it has to be a lot. The relationships between the characters are very slowly developing, but it's very interesting to see their dynamic evolve. The world building remains bizarre and original.
Content warnings: Torture. Violence. However this book has by far the least amount of gore and bodies in the entire series.
