I watched the film way before reading there book and it is one of my favourites films of all time. The book did not disappoint, the small issue I have is that sometimes King would reveal something that happened later on in the story and run the surprise element of it (like the incident with Percy and Mr. Jingles). However it was written incredibly with some very sad moments as well as funny moments. I've not been disappointed by a King novel yet.

slow-paced

I'm a constant reader. I will go to battle for SK. But I had to watch Shawshank Redemption to be able to get the motivation to tackle this one. It did pick up in part 4 and beyond, but to get there took a green mile. This wasn't at all what I expected of this (was expecting more along Shawshank Redemption, tbh) but by the end I did enjoy this one. I don't think it's his strongest work, but it was still pretty good. It took a while to get all the characters straight as they seemed a little interchangeable in the beginning (perhaps by design). I was very happy that certain people got their just desserts, but man, I really liked John Coffey and was hoping for a different outcome for him. But it's SK so I should know that no one is ever safe.

wow. i’ve only read a couple of stephen king books before the green mile, but this is the book that’s impressed me the most thus far. king is notorious for being a horror writer. with this book, he shows you that he can write something beautiful, too.

this book isn’t meant to be scary, i don’t think, but it still delivers dark themes and tense scenes that you would expect from a stephen king novel. 5 stars!
