I have a love hate relationship with Mr. King. I liked his older books like Carrie or Pet Cemetery but found his newer ones rambled on for too long with nowhere to go.

Heard of this title a long way back but avoided the film because of the synopsis which I found harrowing. Recently I discovered this book in a second hand bookshop and thought maybe I'm just old enough now to face it.

Long story short, I did enjoy the book. It had a good story line, some likeable and despicable characters as a good book should. There were some tender and sweet moments woven in with scary ones. I just wish it had a different ending. It was painful to think of the waste of talent of the gentle giant.
