This was a great book! I loved how it was written.

Entertaining but sad.

I love Donna Everhart but this was my least favorite. I struggled a bit, mostly due to the topic and my inability to connect with Jessie, whom I didn't like very much. Hopefully I'll love her next book as much as I loved her first two novels.

The Moonshiner’s Daughter by Donna Everhart is a thought-provoking historical fiction novel that takes place in the mountains of North Carolina in the 1960s. Ms. Everhart created dramatic, colorful and complicated characters who are all wrapped up in the illegal production of moonshine. Ms. Everhart peppers her tale with betrayals, revenge, vandalism, and murder. I appreciate her storytelling and vivid descriptions of her characters and landscape. The main character, Jessie Sasser, was very young when her mother was killed. Her father refuses to talk about her death, and Jessie is determined to find out the details. Jessie is 16 years old in this story and is aware of the Moonshining her father and his family has done for years. Ms. Everhart very graphically depicts eating disorders, and how it affects Jessie and her family. I recommend this captivating novel, but offer a word of warning: the opening scene describes a brutal death in detail, and her descriptions of bulimia and anorexia could be triggering.
