A decent conclusion to this series. I liked it. Still no explanation about the random real world gadgets and tech that happen to crop up occasionally in the narrative. Kinda annoyed about that.

Love that wrap up of characters missing in so many other books. Kept reading always. The Great Alchemie Disaster finally explained and all the loose ends wrapped up. Cerys being awful made Mathilda's wonderfulness even better, especially because the older ancestors are described as crazy or awful.

I couldn't be happier with the ending of one of my all-time favorite series! It was so lovely to see all of my favorite characters one last time in the main series. The ending is so satisfying, although after reading the part where Septimus talks to his future ExtraOrdinary Wizard self, I really want to know what happened to Marcia and how / why / when Septimus became ExtraOrdinary Wizard. Hopefully that'll be revealed in the TodHunter Moon spinoff series, which I am SO looking forward to reading! Speaking of Tod, that was the smoothest transition into a spinoff series that I have ever read. Angie Sage did an incredible job as always with this book. Seriously, I would give it a million stars if I could.
adventurous funny lighthearted fast-paced
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

It was a great closure for the series, really!

It was still quite slow-paced though, typical Septimus Heaps series. But in this installment, the pace let the plot thicken itself, gave twists here and there, and built up the reader's anticipation. I totally love how the character develop in the plot, how the story between them continued from the last installment (*cough* Jenna-Beetle *cough*). And the ending! Oh, there was a coronation alright (with all the interesting and entertaining hustles and bustles), but I really like how Ms. Sage ended the story. Giving a glimpse to the future, but not the "19 years later" kind. (that's not a spoiler, yes?)

I would recommend the book for those who love the series from the start, because this is the kind of series you can't just jump to begin reading one book. Although the series is really slow paced, but fantasy story fans really have to take a look at it.

sorry to reach the end of the series! I want more!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDNESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I read Magyck when I was ten years old and in fourth grade, and now, reading the final book, I'm fifteen and entering my sophomore year of high school. I have essentially grown up with these characters, and seeing this series end is making my heart hurt.
So where do I begin?
First of all, the story of this book was excellent. I've always been fascinated by the Two-faced ring and wanted to know how exactly it came to be, and so finally learning that was so interesting. Right from the prologue I knew that these two wizards would be an important part of the conflict, and so when the Heap brothers showed up on the palace doorstep speaking in conjoined sentences, I FREAKED OUT. I had no idea what exactly was going on- were they the regeneration of the ring wizards in Heap form? Were they the actual wizards but with a glamor placed over them so that no one realize who they were?
And then the actual story picked up and everything seemed HOPELESS; things just kept getting worse and worse, with the wizards escaping and the Committal failing and the trip to the House of Foryx leaving Septimus and Nicko trapped inside and the Dragon Boat dying and just a million other very bad things. Not to mention the massive Chamber of Fyre going completely haywire- who could forget that little tiny disaster?
But, of course, everything was resolved, with our entire crew just being completely wonderful. And then the end came, and everything was happy again.
And Jenna was crowned QUEEN, and oh, my gosh, that was a tearful moment, seeing the little girl who found out her identity on her tenth birthday become the ruler of the Castle, and becoming so brave and strong but retaining that good heart that we had known her for. She came to terms with her family, something that I’d been hoping for for the longest time- as much as I hated Queen Cerys, I’m glad that she was able to meet her mother and realize who she was. I love that she grew closer to Milo in this book, which made me so happy that she had finally let him into her heart. And then Septimus saw his future self as the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, which is, in my opinion, the best way that that could have been done, because we see him in that position without having to see Marcia die, and oh, gosh that was even more emotional. Because in that moment, we saw the scrawny, terrified kid from the Young Army who had no family and who had lost all that he cared about a long time ago become everything that he could only have been in his wildest, most fantastic dreams and that dream became a reality. And that final line about him being what he had always wanted to be, Septimus Heap, ExtraOrdinary Wizard, just made me want to sob all of the tears that I still had in my body. Both Sep and Jen have come so far since Magyck, and I am so happy and proud for both of them.
But I can’t forget all of the other characters. I can’t forget Beetle, the awkward scribe whose best friend was the ExtraOrdinary apprentice and who had a massive crush on the Princess and who became the flipping CHIEF HERMETIC SCRIBE, and the best one that the Manuscriptorium had seen in years. Who became so brave and who would do anything for the Castle, who actually became great friends with Marcia and who defended the Manuscriptorium and helped defeat the Ring Wizards alongside everyone else. I can’t forget Marcia Overstrand, my favorite character in the entire series and an incredible ExtraOrdinary Wizard. She was such a BAMF in this book; she was so brave and wouldn’t take trouble from anybody. As always knew what she wanted to do and would stop at nothing to get it done; as always she loved the people around her to no end and would protect them to no extent. And the other Heaps: I am so, so proud of Simon. I cannot express how proud I am of this man who turned his life around and is now the Alchemist apprentice. I’m just as proud of Nicko, the Senior Apprentice and sailor who has come so far. The Forest Heaps (who, after the endings, I suppose aren’t Forest Heaps anymore) have made names for themselves beyond anything I could have expected. Sarah and Silas were just as wonderful as ever. And Marcellus- I flipping love Marcellus Pye more than I can ever express. He is insane, but I suppose he’s a good kind of insane. I really did love his development.
I’m starting to ramble a bit, so I think I’ll finish soon, but what I will say: I’ve been shipping Jenna and Beetle since Flyte, and I’m VERY happy about that ending, even if it was a bit vague. And I’ve been saying since that same book that something was happening with Milo and Marcia, and I’ve been proven right! Milo, by the way, was terrific in this book- I kept on wondering what was going on with him and Hildegarde, and I was overjoyed by that reveal. Also "Free My Child" was very emotional.
I’m sad about Syrah. She was one of my favorite characters and while I understand that it was unlikely for her to recover fully, it was very sad for me that she had no memories.
I loved Rose. She was a lot of fun and was a very interesting character, and I loved her and Septimus.
Daandra Daar is wonderful. Love her to pieces.
Alther was terrific in this book: I've always loved him but it was great to have him back after he was missing in Darke. And I have a level of respect for him that I cannot even begin to express after he put up with Nursie and Merrin.
I freaking hate Marissa.
Rest in Peace Aunt Zelda and Maxie

Oh, and the moment when Septimus, Jenna and Marcellus were trapped in the flooding Ice Tunnels and Milo said to let them in because he knew his child, and Marcia said “So do I,” referring to Septimus as her child, had me EXPLODING with feelings.
And on a final note: TODHUNTER MOON IS GOING TO BE A THING AND I AM SO EXCITED I CANNOT EVEN EXPRESS MYSELF.

I can’t believe I got through a 7-book series and I still want MORE

A delightful end to a delightful series! I love these characters and I'm so sad the end has come!

The seventh book in the Septimus Heap series. Jenna has gone on her "journey" with her mother's and grandmother's ghosts prior to her coronation as queen. Sep and Simon are helping Marcellus restart the Alchemical fire. When two evil wizards escape from a magical ring, everyone must work together to return them to the ring and then destroy it in the fire. Fans of the series will thoroughly enjoy this final installment.
