⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's exciting and a good thriller to recommend.

I love the writing of the author. It's crisp and on the point.
The transition is very clean and attractive.

I really liked the full cast of this audiobook. It was incredible listening to it. It was cool how it's half a story and half a podcast storyline.
I do feel like the story was a little predictable. Once you find out about Sadie's trauma, it didn't really take a ton of twists and turns. It was obviously emotional reading about such a heavy topic. Check trigger warnings! Cannot stress enough.

I just feel like at the end
when he was the murderer of her sister (predictable) and her disappearance goes unresolved (boring!), I wish it just had a bit more to make it interesting.

An all time fav. Courtney Summers just knows how to write the most complex, messy, and beautiful female characters. I felt all the feelings, and I couldn't help but gift this book to anyone who would let me. And the audiobook?! Still one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to.

The format of this book is unique with half the book set up as a podcast and the other half from Sadie’s point of view. Because of that format, however, parts of the book became repetitive, discussing things the reader already knew. Additionally, the majority of the book was fairly predictable, so it lacked the suspense I desired from this type of book. Despite that, it is well written, and the ending is amazing (especially when listening to the audio version). Not the best book I’ve ever read, but definitely one of the better ones.

I thought long and hard before deciding what rating would be appropriate for this book. On the one hand it is fantastically written and the idea of chapters with radio show was amazing and I can appreciate that, but on the other I really disliked the theme. Which is important, I know, it just wasn't what I was expecting. And I also hated the ending which admittedly was exactly what was right for this book to be felt even more, but I wanted at least a bit closure.
But if you don't mind more problematic themes and possibly being heartbroken than this book is really well written and you will probably like it.

Wow! This book was a production and I mean that in the most positive and literal way.
I have been randomly selecting my current reads by random drawing: one audiobook and one physical book. I drew this one for the audiobook and I think it was more fate than a random drawing because audiobook is THE way to read this book (or at least partially-according to other reviews)
This book has a very interesting format that lends itself perfectly to the story it tells.
It's broken into two different timelines and POV for the story. There's Sadie's story from the past and her search for her sister's killer for some food, old fashioned revenge. The second part intertwined is told through a true crime podcast narrated by a compelling detective type (McCray) as he tries to solve the murder of Mattie/find missing Sadie.
McMillan Publishing put together the podcast sections like a literal true crime podcast on the audiobook including a theme song, sponsors, and different vocals for every interview. It is such an incredible way to produce this book on a bigger scale.
This book has my name written all over it: mystery, kind detective procedural, podcast, incredible narrators, and a strong female protagonist. Be still my heart.
So it's no surprise that I loved this book. I don't think I would have loved it the same if I read the physical copy because of how the structure of the book was. In fact, I think I probably wouldn't rate it quite so high. I'm impressed that the author essentially wrote both a novel and a script.
I really don't know what else to say. It's fantastic and I highly recommend the audiobook.
