Very enjoyable!

I went into this manga knowing nothing about it. I didn't know there was a movie until after I finishing reading this. So, in the beginning of the story, I was a little lost. But I was quickly able to pick up on what was going on, and then really got into it. The art is beautiful, and I'm loving the storyline. I look forward to reading future volumes!

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC.

Reviewed for School Library Journal. I loved the movie and this adaptation is a beautiful, faithful telling of a cinematic masterpiece. There are so many fun characters in this story, and so much to love about Suzume. She has a strong, pure heart and is so willing to help. This is a whirlwind of an adventure! I am not a Manga Girlie .... however I am starting to broach out into this genre so that I am able to use them as palette cleanser. I find these so easy to read and enjoyed the story in this however I found that the art style was not my favourite style which detracted my liken for the story. I will be looking to continue this series for another couple of issues when the come out

High school junior Suzume directs the beautiful stranger, Souta, to the ruins near her hometown but then remembers that they're dangerous and people aren't supposed to enter. She hurries to stop him but only manages to open a door that should never be opened and set loose a being that will lead her and Souta on an action-packed chase across Japan.

This is a straightforward manga version of the movie, pretty much nothing changes from one to the next other than the medium. It's a great story and Denki Amashima does an excellent job of portraying emotions, especially the danger unleashed on the world, but there is nothing new to surprise you if you've watched the movie. On the other hand, if you don't like animated features but enjoy reading an excellent manga, this one's for you.

Delighted thanks to NetGalley, Kodansha Comics, and Vertical Comics for the lovely read!

4/5 - 4 stars rounded up
I’ve been meaning to watch the movie for the longest time but I never got the opportunity to do so, and this was perfect timing for me.

I’m not new to Makoto Shinkai’s works, and as always, I was immediately captured,
The storyline is extremely captivating, the art was amazing as always and it was a very quick and enjoyable read. I can definitely see why so many people keep recommending Suzume.
Reading this manga made me want to watch the movie asap.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this eARC.

As someone who loved the movie, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the manga. This gives those who have watched the movie a different perspective into Suzume's experience, especially regarding her memories of the past. There were some parts that felt like they skipped background information, but that could just be because the film is still fresh in my memory. Still, it was easy to follow along with, so I think those who haven't seen the film will enjoy it just as much. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next volume!
