I have never watched the movie, but had heard such great things that I knew I needed to read the manga.

The story is so interesting and I need to know more about the doors and the characters backstory’s. I love how the story slowly gives you little pieces of information, just enough to keep you hooked and needing to learn more. The main characters are both so interesting and well done. I love Suzume so much and how she just wants to help everyone.

I cannot wait to read the next volume and watch the movie!

I loved it! I can't wait to read the rest and find out what happens and why Suzume can see the doors and everything else.

The plot is well developed and the characters are fantastic. The drawings are evocative and make you feel like you are right there with the characters.

I devoured the while thing and I can't wait to read more!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Netgalley and Kodansha!

I haven't watched Suzume yet, but reading this eARC made me ten times more excited to get to it. The charming art style and movement had all the charm I remember from the trailer and I loved the story.

Suzume follows the titular character, a young girl trying her best despite the loss of her parents, whose world is turned upside down when she meets a stranger on the road to school asking for directions to an abandoned place nearby. After hearing that the cops are keeping a strict eye on the place, she races back to warn him—only to find a mysterious door leading to nowhere that ends up taking her on an adventure she never could have predicted.

I loved the whirlwind energy and I adored the characters. They both have my whole heart and the parts where they reacted to underestimating each other were done quite well. I think there were some pages where the flow of panels felt kind of strange, though this might have been the way they ended up being laid out on digital. This is a manga adaptation of a movie, so at least if you're desperately craving more like I am, the full story is already out there.

This was the cutest intro to a new manga series for me. I loved Suzume as a main character and I can’t wait to know the back story of Souta and what secrets hide behind the door!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a e-copy.

This is a manga adaptation of the movie which I have yet to watch but after reading this first volume I can't wait to. It follows Suzume Iwato, a high schooler, who meets a mysterious man looking for a door and the adventure goes on from there. I found this story heartwarming, showing how people can help each other in need along the way. The art style was beautiful and clear to what was happening in the story, making it engaging from start to finish. Plus, with a cute but mischievous cat, what's not to love?

Based off the plot of the film Suzume, the first volume of the manga follows the beats of the film very closely. The art style is lonely and in keeping with the film. I do wonder how easy it is to follow parts of the plot if you haven't seen the movie, but if you have read other manga or are familiar with other magical realism storylines, most will be able to follow it.

Thank you to Kodansha Comics and Vertical Comics for an ARC on NetGalley. All opinions are my own. This book is due to be published  9/24/24.

This is adapted from the Golden Globe winning movie (which I need to finish I’m sorry lol) and I usually watch stuff adapted from manga and not always vice versa so this was a fun reversal. I think the written/drawn form is so nice too because you can dwell on the details and appreciate the art so much more. This definitely makes me want to go and finish the movie!

Because it’s just volume 1, this is just set up really and I’m sure the other volumes will give us more of the depth we want. It reminds me of Studio Ghibli or other popular anime movies like Your Name with a lot of whimsical elements and high stakes.

Anyways would you still love me if I was a chair?
