Sixteen years earlier Rose’s life was completely destroyed and it still haunts her present. She fell in love with a wrong guy , her best friend was raped and her younger eight year old brother was murdered while he was in her care. She still feels responsible for all of it ,as she believes she brought it all on her family by making a mistake in falling for the wrong guy. Now in present time Rose finds a clue that might shatter everything she believed all those years ago.
The Mistake is a fast paced psychological thriller which I devoured in one day. The characters were well developed , the story suspenseful with a twist I didn’t see coming . Overall a great read and another hit by K.L.Slater
Many thanks to Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

My second book by the author so far. Loved the story - the book highlights how some can be controlling in relationships and how others live to deal with it. An unexpected twist at the end, not the ending I had convinced myself of! Highly recommended.

I listened to the audible . Narrator was good. Reason for taking 2 stars off was in some sections it looked like the author was recapping things from prior chapter. It felt unnecessary.

I really enjoyed this book but at times I just couldn’t stand the character Gareth! I know he was never meant to be likable but I couldn’t believe how naive Rose was too see the controlling behavior from the very beginning..it almost made me quit listening….anyway great read/listen. It was worth suffering through that part lol

This story takes place in two timelines; the time around when eight-year-old Billy goes missing, and sixteen years later with his sister, Rose.
Billy was out flying his kite with his sister Rose when he suddenly vanished. Two days later, he is found dead.
Rose still blames herself for Billy’s death, sixteen years later. She blames herself for not protecting him. She has never really recovered from the trauma, and there are few people she trusts. One of them is her neighbor Ronnie, whom she has known her whole life. One day Ronnie falls ill and ends up in the hospital. Rose, trying to help him, decides to clean his home. While cleaning, she finds something in one of the upstairs bedrooms that make her question everything she thought she knew.
I liked the story because I thought I knew who committed the crime, it wasn't the obvious choice, and I was wrong. I knew it wasn't who they were trying to make it out to be, but it wasn't who I was expecting either. I would recommend it for an easy read.

It was somewhat predictable, though not entirely, and an enjoyable read.

The front cover isn't my favourite, it doesn't really fit in what the story is about. It indicates drama between a couple, not between a girl in her twenties and an old man.
The story itself was good, there were loads of twists and turns but I must say it ended rather abruptly and left me eager to have more answers.
The main character was described very well but she was frustrating and acting like some immature girl.
The writing was easy and fluid but could have been pushed more for a thriller. This felt more like something light than a gripping thriller.
Overall it's a nice book to read if you don't have much time and aren't looking to get fully invested in the read.
