This book is a collection of 12 short stories featuring Lord Peter. I love his character, but the format of short stories does not allow him to shine as brilliantly as a longer novel. Still a whitty read, and clever mysteries.

Great stories. Perfect for a night-time read. Peter solves wonderful cases including one with a sculptor whose model is perfect except for one toe, a will devised by a crossword fanatic, and one case which requires him to be "dead" for two years.

Hit-and-miss, as most short story collections are. My favorite by far was "The Learned Adventure of the Dragon's Head" in which Wimsey is stuck in charge of his 10-year-old nephew due to an outbreak of measles. "The Piscatorial Farce of the Stolen Stomach" was also quite fun.

So fun. This collection of shorter Peter Wimsey mysteries were so fun to read. Especially the last one. Many of them carried with them a hint of a Sherlock Holmes story line. As I read each story I was able to match most of them with a Sherlock story-line that was similar. Similar but entirely different in its characters, details and time in history. Dare I write it one more time?... It was so fun.

Better than the other short story collection, but again I really prefer her novels.

I don't quite know why this gets listed as book #4 in the series, as it's a short story collection...but an enjoyable one! Some of the stories are a bit darker than the full novels, but they made for entertaining reading. And I'm very pro-short-stories as a rule--this is a collection I'd definitely recommend, though not a great introduction to the series. It works much better knowing these characters already!

I am normally not a fan of short stories, but the format works splendidly for these mysteries. I enjoy Lord Peter Wimsey (seriously, what a fabulous name) and how he brings a level of flair. Like Sir Percy Blakeney meets Sherlock Holmes but not quite.
Anyway, several gems but my personal favorite was "The Dragon's Head." I definitely felt alarm at "The Cave of Ali Baba."
Looking forward to exploring more of Dorothy L. Sayers in this coming year!
