This book was an easy read, I tackled it in a night or two, but I found myself not really caring about the plight of these single moms on welfare. It was cool to get another perspective though

I didn't think I would enjoy this, but I did. I'm not usually a fan of contemporary fiction, as I find it depressing most of the time, but this cleverly written story about mothers on welfare during a rainy Winnipeg summer captured my heart. Well done Miriam Toews.

This was a reread for me. I think I understand better how someone can find themselves in the circumstances that occur here. My favourite of hers so far is "All my Puny Sorrows" . This is well worth the read for the family dynamics and friendships that Toews does so well.
