I don't understand why so many people like this short story. I found out that it was considered a staple in feminism literature so I decided to reread it since I've become interested in writings based on this subject. It wasn't my kind of book. It wasn't badly written but I just don't see why it caused such a stir other than suggesting that a woman who suffers from anxiety and depression might know how to make herself feel happier more than her physician brother and husband. Maybe I should have relied on memory saying that I didn't like this short story when I first read it but I gave it a second shot since it was a required reading assignment. I don't think I'll read any more of Ms. Gilman's work if this is considered her best, but I'll keep my mind open if another book of hers interests me.
