4.5 during the historical retelling/ reliving's from Hal, i had to reread a couple of times to understand...sometimes i never fully did. Otherwise, i loved this!

I enjoyed it for a YA read on a theme I’d somehow only read from a weird, religious stand point from the Xtian school library I was unfortunate enough to have to attend. It’s made me want more like it but adult Egyptian archaeology paranormal mystery over YA though this was nice over all. 3.5/5 stars rounded up to 4/5 stars.

I really enjoy books where travel is the main theme. The settings of this book where vivid and alive. But I do have conflicting feelings about the romanticization of Cleopatra and the fetishization of Egyptian history by white people. Also, the portrayal of mental heath is a bit confusing and I'm not sure what to make of it. And then there is the whole issue of archeological ethics that is just not addressed whatsoever.
Graphic: Cultural appropriation, Death, Grief, Mental illness, and Murder
Moderate: Gun violence
Minor: Slavery and Forced institutionalization

A thrilling adventure which combines mystic forces and Egyptian archaeology? I'm all in! And it lived up to its promise. I devoured this one in two quick mornings.
