I enjoyed this book. I was hesitant to read it thinking it would be a boring class aside book. But the writing style reminded me of "catcher in the rye". A very from one thought to the other writing style. Where you don't even realize that you are transitioning from one topic to another. The themes discussed in these books are interesting enough. And I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a little better understanding of the Japanese coulter. This is one of the better books in its field.

I liked this book, it was a bit hard to understand at first, and I think I’ll read it again to understand it properly. Only towards the end did I get that it was about shadows, and I think it was beautiful.

- Interesting perspective, finding appreciation in the darkness and in the imperfections or under "imperfect" lighting
- Would go off on odd tangents sometimes and was a little too forward about his perception of east vs. west, but I think it also served a purpose to demonstrate how the older way of doing things was more beautiful
