This was a good book by a great author. I felt that she could have done a little more character development for Kestra so that she would be more relatable.

Good book. Was it on the same caliber as “The False Prince”? No but it was a solid book with good world building and some good character change. Little bit insta-lovey but not overwhelming. Loved the dialogue and the spunky nature of the Main character.

Really good book for a Y/A novel. I actually tried to read this book a few years back and got mad at the plot, therefore making it the only book series I ever quit. So now I’m rereading it.

Since my last read, my reviewing format, although not professional, has changed a lot as have my thoughts.

For one, I no longer think the world is that unique, however, I don't know if this is because I already know it. Secondly, the romance was insta love for sure. I also do not dislike it as I have stated previously but there were some very cheesy lines that I still cringe at. If you love a typical (not in a bad way) YA fantasy then I definitely recommend it. I haven't read the last book yet, however, I feel like I can say it's gonna pack a punch regardless of the recurring tropes. Definitely looking forward to it!

World
I loved the new world we were introduced to. I don't read a lot of YA and most especially not YA fantasy, so I wouldn't know if it's really that special to everyone but it was to me. I think the world was really unique, through the whole book I was thinking 'This is so different, and I love it."

Plot
The synopsis had me confused at first. However, every chapter ended with me wanting more. It just kept getting more interesting, and there are so many twists!

Romance
Here's where my -1 star comes from. Before you get the wrong idea, I DID like the pairing - I loved it. But, the romance was cheesy - most of the time, not all of the time. However, it didn't bother me so much that it was annoying, I kinda laughed at those parts. It felt like those cheesy lines in romance movies/shows.

A little melodramatic at times and very heavy on the romance but still quite excellent and had some good twists and turns.

I only picked up this audiobook for something to listen to - I don't even think I read the synopsis, I was just in the mood for some YA fantasy...but let me tell you this book is INCREDIBLE!

The Traitor's Game exceeded any expectation I had and I am absolutely dying for the next two books to come out so I can see how it all ends, and thankfully both the narrators are really good - something that always increases the quality of an audiobook.

The story vaguely reminds me of Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series - as there are certain elements that are quite similar; however, I can honestly say I enjoyed this much more than I did TOG (which while I am a fan of, It didn't really capture my attention until the fifth book).

I love Kestra, she's such a cool protagonist - she's strong but loyal to a fault and it breaks my heart that she's been betrayed so many times.

I hate Cecilia with a burning passion for betraying Kestra, she was her only friend and she sold her out without so much as an apology (and pretended to get tortured in order to manipulate her) - I hope she gets a sword through the chest asap.

I also hate Trina who might possibly be one of the most self-centered characters I've ever read - constantly having the audacity to be mad at Kestra (Does she keep forgetting that they literally kidnapped her, threated her life and the life of the only farther shes ever known? but yeah sure get mad when she isn't nice to you).

I love Simon but honestly, the boy needs to grow a backbone, especially if he's going to end up king; he can't make his mind up about where his loyalty lies - and he keeps taking the Coracks side despite the fact that they are almost as bad as King Endrick themselves.

Which is another laughable point, the Coracks act so high and mighty but never once do they prove themselves to be better than the evil king. They lie, manipulate, torture and kill to get what they want - exactly like the king.

I cannot wait for the next two book of this trilogy to come out - I adore this book and I have a feeling that once complete this series may just become an all-time favorite.

Also PLEASE LET DARROW BE ALIVE, PLEASE!
