ALL TIME FAVORITE for the past like 6 years!!! LOVE THE PLOT TWISTS! Took like a day the first time I read it. I like the main character is scary smart, cunning, and fierce
Well, to be honest: If I hadn´t read this book all at once, this probably would have ended as a DNF for me. I kept reading through the first half to see if my predictions were right and as I said only finished it because I kept going then. I really wanted to like this book because people compared it to [b:Ruined|26074185|Ruined (Ruined, #1)|Amy Tintera|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1445240167s/26074185.jpg|42794689] and [b:The Winner's Curse|16069030|The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, #1)|Marie Rutkoski|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1377023523s/16069030.jpg|21861552], but for me, the whole concept didn´t work at all.
My two major issues with this book were a) the tropes and b) the implausibility of just everything.
Some of the tropes used here were "the chosen one", the privileged naive girl who discovers injustice and others that would spoil you, so I won´t mention them. The plot lacked some originality and I know that is a harsh thing to say, but its what I felt while reading the book. It also contained one of the worst romances I´ve read about. You can´t call it insta-love because they knew each other for some time, but it felt like it anyways. Simon´s chapters all revolved around Kestra and we don´t get to know anything about his life when he isn´t with her. When an author chooses duo-perspective, the second POV needs to have a true purpose. This time it hadn´t.
The implausibility in this book was mostly caused by too many plot twists. Not much was making sense to me after the plotline changed directions so often.
Maybe you might enjoy it, but sadly I can´t recommend it...
PS: I gave it to 2s because I appreciate the author`s effort to create a strong female character and an exciting story. Also, the dialogue was cringy, but sometimes in a funny way. I´ll obviously not continue on with this series.

And I don´t see why these twists even existed when in the end, she was the blade´s master nevertheless and all easy predictions were the right ones.Maybe you might enjoy it, but sadly I can´t recommend it...

The main female character (Kestra) is giving me 'not like other girls' vibes. She's annoying and thinks that her version of strong makes her a tough, strong woman when she's just a spoiled brat with an attitude problem.
I am sick and tired of this trope in YA. Women and girls can be strong without being fake and annoying. They can be strong without knowing how to hold a sword or giving attitude for no reason. Strength and courage means more than what this author... And authors like her, think. Especially women's courage and bravery.

Main character was annoying. She could not follow the simplest instructions, I did not like that bitch.
All she had to do was keep her head in the goddamn cart, but she wanted to be silly

The story was fairly interesting, and I am somewhat interested by the final chapter but not enough to read the sequel. SO MANY times the narrative was absurd. Why would a kidnapped person ever tell the truth to her captors? Why would they ever think there was trust or friendship? Why would they think she's ever on their side? Yet, this is always coming up in conversation. It just becomes completely ridiculous.
