Jennifer A. Nielsen delivered what she promised yet again. I was up all night trying to get to the ending!
At the beginning of the book I thought I was able to guess where the story might be headed (which wasn’t a bad thing, I just thought it was slightly predictable.) Boy, was I wrong. Nielsen always leads me to believe that I know what’s going to happen and then *bam!* the plot twists, and then twists again, and then you have one page left and and she does it again!!
Nielsen had me believing that her characters fell in love — enemies to lovers, no less — over the course of three days. Trust me, it didn’t feel like three days passed in the story. After all that happened to Kestra, Simon, and Trina, I fully expected a whole month to have passed by the end of the story. But no, it was three days. If that’s not good writing, I don’t know what is.
Needless to say I will be heading to the library ASAP to get book 2.

OKAY! ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED BOOKS
let's go
3.8➡️4/5⭐
Kestra never annoyed me. She was so sooo smart, her plans were amazing. I really loved her. The only thing I didn't quite like is that she 16 and Simon is 17, I think they could have been older but that's ok too.
I liked Simon too, he was ok ahahaha.
And other characters were eh, didn't like them, but whatever.
This is a enemies to lovers book so I'd love to read them more as enemies. I think they started to liking each other so fast, but since nothing happened that was acceptable too.
This book was a little cliché, not gonna lie but there were some plot twists really made me

Solid YA (good building of peril, and that you can't trust anyone, and wondering if you're on the right side, or the winning side, and what either side will cost you,) but not exactly my thing. Partially I think cause the dialogue didn't really do it for me, partially cause I'm not exactly in the mood for that very specific YA aesthetic right now, which I only identified halfway through. Whoops.

Ok this was a fairly crazy book. I've never seen so many kidnappings in one book before. I really liked the narrators so that also helps. The world building is pretty solid, and the magic is intriguing, especially since only certain people can have it to begin with. I expected a bit more politics. There was a good amount of action, and a balance to characters. Kestra is low key bad ass. She likes to be pampered, but also she can seriously maim you. It was a little insta-love with her and Simon but I really enjoyed the banter and the build up. I guessed at the ending pretty early on, but the story was still really enjoyable. I hope there's more of Endrick (?) in the next one because he's an interesting villain that got glossed over a little in this one.
twists, turns, plot twists galore. the traitors game has it all. it will keep you guessing till the very end. I absolutely loved this book. the characters were genuine and believable. add on the romance and I could reread it now and be happy.
