I had huge hopes for this book. When it came out everyone seemed to love it but wow it did not do it for me at all! On paper this should have worked. It's an ode to the brutality of mothering, where the mother has given up her career and is struggling to find her own identity and her husband is annoyingly distant and unhelpful. All the feminist rage! But here the protagonist inexplicably finds herself able to turn into a dog - Nightbitch. As she gives into her canine thoughts she tries to work out what is happening finding an unusual field guide at the library and a mums and bubs group aka a multilevel marketing scheme.

I wanted to love this. Unhinged mothers? Sure. Becoming a dog at night? Ok. But honestly this felt forced. I could not relate to it even as a satirical take on modern motherhood. After struggling in print I switched to audio and only finished because it was on my #12booksin12months challenge.

Fantastic book. Challenging, funny and eye opening to the challenges of the modern day woman and the dichotomy of what it means to be a modern woman

Wonderful. Couldn't put it down. Having a two year old son myself, this book hit hard. Perfectly captures the vast emotion women can feel becoming mothers. Highly recommend.
