I’m not convinced… *spoilers*
Based on what I read at the beginning of the book and then compared with the ending, I’m not really convinced that there was a real resolution. The beginning writing seemed overly depressed. Then in the end she claims to be a god. It’s also unclear if she is actually shapeshifting into a dog or she just thinks she is and is going crazy?
The fact that the protagonist just went from one extreme to the other made everything confusing for me. In the end I figured that she just became a different type of delusional? I’m not convinced that she was happy. Unless that was the intended purpose, then I’m not sure I understood or liked the ending.

How dare Rachel Yoder publish this unauthorized biography of me?! Seriously a great book and hit super close to home.

This book is satirical, but there are several parts of the book that made me think about my life. It made you think about motherhood and being a girl/woman. How sometimes we just want to be feral. I loved this book and would highly recommend reading it!

Certainly a weird one. Not for me, I mostly skimmed it. It could maybe have been a better short story but I found the whole thing difficult to get through. Absolutely suffocating which I imagine was the intention but was so strong I didn’t want to spend a moment more than I had to with it.
Someone should do a wellness check on Gen X women, this is the 4th book I’ve read where this cohort is having a mental breakdown and either dreaming about killing their husband, extremely resentful, or otherwise exploring “other relationships.” If you like this, check out All Fours, The Dream Hotel, Sandwich (different), or More. Also for women having mental breakdowns The Yellow Wallpaper (postpartum depression, referenced in the book) or The Vegetarian (schizophrenia).
Do not read this book if you are vegetarian or vegan. It’s disgusting.
