I really loved this, I fear I’m overdoing it with a five but it resonated SO much with me which unfortunately means I like it way more than I probably should. I love writing that uses the fantastic so freely, that doesn’t try to explain to you the logic, and in this it amplifies the innate, animal understanding it’s trying to express. I got it, I too feel the rage and the urge to go run around and Be Animal, it was so fantastic to me. Reminded me a bit of Mona Awad’s Bunny in its use of the fantastic and animal transfiguration, and particularly the Mom cult (?) and the herb-selling, which I thought would have been more present in the story. However I’m glad it didn’t, I liked the Mother figure that the protagonist becomes who is slightly apart and above which is necessary outside of the focus of that group of women.
I’m sure there are some inconsistent little aspects to this, the ending doesn’t make a huge amount of sense, nor does the whole Wanda White thing, to me. With this it’s best to ignore pragmatism and the urge to get to the bottom of everything and just embrace the whole animal release of it, and the great discussions of art and motherhood and freedom and mundane modern routine, I loved it.

One of the best books I have read so far this year, seriously could not put it down once I started it. Beautifully written exploration, indictment, and ultimate celebration of motherhood.

It’s not that it’s a bad story i think a lot of it was interesting and i like that it was easy to read but characters didn’t have much of a personality. I expected some more of a horror element idk why but it just very graphic.
