dark funny slow-paced

Original, that’s for sure. Lots of relatable bits about motherhood, anger, being an artist. But with this weird fantastical twist.

While I am a mother, and understood the premise of this book, I just did not like it at all! The main character was meant to be some kind of empowered feminist, but was in fact just a whiny annoying person who always believed herself to be the victim. Too long, boring, and ultimately pointless.

I really enjoy magical realism and thoroughly loved this book, but I do think it needed a stronger ending, and a more nuanced character. I wish we had known more about her life/desires/dreams pre-child, anything to contrast with her rage and contempt. I enjoyed it, and left me hungry for more.

I loved the symbolism of motherhood. The theme was fully explored and I really liked some perspectives and descriptions. -that chapter- was a bit much for me. I was nauseous for an hour afterwards and the ending fell flat for me. But overall it was unique and a needed exploration of the challenges of modern motherhood. I wish it was actually an exploration of postpartum psychosis instead of performance art
