It was a big setup that slowly ebbed away from me

Loved the message and magical realism.

The first quarter immediately got me, it was fresh, wild and alluring. The middle two quarters fell flat for me and realllly dragged on and started feeling repetitive.
The last quarter was just as wild as the first one but in a way more puzzling kind of way. The ending did feel like it landed wrong with me, it just wasn't interesting to me.

I do have to say I am not a mother and because of that i may feel disconnected fron the text.

I’d probably feel differently about this book if I were a mother, but I’m not sure that would necessarily shift this in a positive direction. There were pockets of good writing and good points but I got the point 10% in and then the book just didn’t really add any depth to its message. In fact, the later parts of the book undermined all the salient messages of the book. As another reviewer said, “I hate everyone in this book including the baby.” Should have been a short story that commented on the main character’s self-inflicted lack of agency, but alas.

Weird but good. It's certainly engrossing, and I was very interested in where it was going. I am also very interested in how they adapted it - does Amy Adams actually turn into an animal?

The cat death was FUCKING R O U G H, though. Oof, hard to read as a cat lover.
