An excellent commentary on what motherhood can be (and is, in many people's case). I listened to the audiobook version. The pace was enough to keep me interested, and the climax at the end was intense and thrilling.

2.5/5 Stars

I liked the concept of this book, but honestly, I found myself bored as I kept reading. The first quarter was intriguing and held my interest, but after that, it lost momentum. I struggled to understand what the central plot or purpose of the story was.

That said, I did appreciate the realistic portrayal of living with a partner who acts like a man-child—someone who never helps, doesn’t show appreciation, and only does things (poorly) after being told repeatedly. That dynamic was unfortunately all too relatable.

I was also hoping for a stronger supernatural or werewolf storyline, but that aspect felt underdeveloped and ultimately fell flat.

DID NOT FINISH: 27%

I’d been expecting more of a buildup to the transformation starting rather than starting right in it. Also didn’t love the no-dialogue/quotations writing style, it’s just not for me in any book. I’d been intrigued by the concept of the book but wasn’t a fan of how the author chose to execute it plot-/structure-wise either. I know others love it since it’s a popular one, but it just wasn’t for me.

What a weird book, yet deeply relatable and profound.

I wish this book was novella length and took more liberties. I wanted The Mother to go hog-fucking-wild. And maybe she does later on! But I just couldn't get invested.
