Centered around a character who is #notlikeothermoms, I find that I think of her more fondly after I was done reading as opposed to while reading. We need more weird mystery in books and this delivers

The writing style is very MFA (which makes sense, because Yoder does have an MFA). It’s also very stream of consciousness.

I was kind of indifferent to the titular character of Nightbitch. At the beginning, I was invested, as she starts from the get go, saying she thinks she’s turning into a dog. She, and soon her two-year old, start to act more doglike. And acting like an animal is liberating for her. The act of being dirty and violent is play, almost only exclusive to children and those willing to be live outside of society.

It’s interesting how motherhood is tied to this transformation. Nightbitch is full of confidence and power by the end, and it’s unnerving .

I think the overall message though, isn’t to start acting like dogs (obviously). I think the message is that feminine rage is something valid and to be feared. Women go through a lot, such as brutal labor and pregnancy, and if they were allowed to be let loose; then maybe it could be a much more beautiful world.

I think i was expecting something pretty different from this book. It’s not horror, it doesn’t really express rage. The book feels academic almost, like a study and it was hard to become immersed into. I didn’t love the style for the story as it was hard to feel what the character was feeling. I really liked the concept and the message behind it but i just felt like it could have been delivered in a better way

Sometimes yes feminine rage! Enjoyed the rambling and emotional turmoil. But mostly just depressing and made me terrified to become a mother.

DID NOT FINISH

Not in a place to read about the hardest time of Motherhood when I've experienced it myself. Congrats to the author. I was too deeply affected to continue. <3

the writing style is so bad, every page felt like a chore. i could not get into this at all. the writing is uninteresting, detached and unpleasant to read. it’s too bad because the concept has a lot of potential but the execution is just not it.
