Entertained by the story, but found the world building a bit confusing, like there were some major questions and plot holes that were left unaddressed.

Why would a human be allowed to enter a vampire competition? Why are there so few contestants to begin with? How is there still a sizeable human population if they're being picked off by dozens of vampires every night? How does no one notice Oraya is killing vampires at night? How is she somehow the smallest contestant by a good bit, as well as the least talented with magic, and yet she wins fairly easily? Humans are clearly able to wield some type of magic, but this isn't explained at all.

Also somewhat irritated by the constant use of "spat" and "choked"

Deliciously dark. A ride from start to finish. I loved everything about this book - the fights, the romance, the TWIST. ugggh. 10/10 😩.

Some Hunger Games elements, that went by really quickly. Lots of building up to the end, which was pretty much a corker, so stick with it. More answers will play out in the second book, I hope - lots alluded to here, reasons why, hidden identities, that I’d like resolved.
