I gotta say that this book brought me back into my book reading phase. I've came across some snippets of the movie every once in a while and decided to finally go ahead and read it. My expectations where very high, once because I really wanted to start reading again and knew if this book disappointed I wouldn't start again and because the snippets already gave me a rough idea that I was interested in. To say at least, the book and story definitely didn't disappoint and it will always be in my top three of my favorite books, because despite everything it made a very big impact on me and I also read it during my first holiday alone and the book will always be connected to the incredible memorys I made.

When I say that this is my favourite book. I mean it. I recommend is book to anyone no matter if they read or not. Yes it does deal with dark topics like gang violence and murder but it also has light topics like brotherly love and loyalty to friends. I have become attached to these characters and really think that everyone should read this at least once in their life.

The Outsiders is a story taking place in the 50’s-60’s discussing childhood gangs. This book was a very enjoyable read for me and is not usually something I’d pick up to read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. As Ponyboy is just about my age I had to try to put myself in his shoes as to how he lives his life as opposed to mine. This book brough awareness to children and gangs and violence among children which is a topic that not many books execute well but I found this book managed to do it while still being something for young teens as myself to enjoy. Despite this book coming across to be violent, it has such a great place for reflection and meaning. We realize these kids aren’t rough just being it’s their nature, they just long for love and affection. Ponyboy being the youngest happens to be the most innocent, and wouldn’t intentionally hurt someone. We see the other gang members, primarily Johnny trying to preserve this. In this we see a heavy message of innocence or as the book refers to, the colour gold.
