I found the first half of the book boring, but the second half of the book had me hooked. Nesbo has a nice, clean writing style. However, I found it hard to get into the characters. Most of them seemed really wooden. Hopefully the next book will be more polished.

decided to read the first book in the series before picking up others. now, not certain that I want to read any more. Not impressed. I guess that I cannot judge on his first book so I will give his writing another go. Hopefully there will be improvement in the next book

My first Jo Nesbo and I'm off to a good start. Different from other thrillers I've read, this one is more slow paced. There's time to get to know Harry, things he went through that brought him to this point in his life. There's time to get to know a little about Australia and its original inhabitants, their culture and they're lives now. Along the way the pace picks up slowly, we get some unexpected twists and turns, and a, for me at least, unexpected murderer.

Just a slow read and I couldn’t get into it, but I’m a mood reader, so I’m saving and will try again possibly!

I read the Snowman a few years ago and when I saw a number of the Harry Hole series at a book sale I bought them. I found this book irritating to read. There were SO many mini stories/reflections. ‘Let me tell you a story…’ totally overused
Additionally, there is an entire section of the book that I hardly read (about 2/3 of the way) because I found it cumbersome and I wanted to get to the end.
I hope the series gets better…
