I'm a long time Patricia Cornwell fan and this book did not disappoint. I enjoyed that this book revolved mostly around Kay Scarpetta with the usual cast of characters, Benton, Lucy and Marino, not figuring as "main" characters. A very enjoyable read.
I surprised myself by reading this book in 2 working days. Such is the plot and the writing, suspense builds from Page 1.
I loved the lead, Kay Scarpetta, Medical Examiner, and Colin way too much. The best part of the series is everyone you feel to be the bad person will be the first ones to die. A 500 page-quickie.
If you are looking for a good crime thriller, this should be your choice. Planning to buy more from Kay Scarpetta series!

The series seems to be back on track. Again we stick with Scarpetta instead of head hopping. Insecurities make sense, even if some previous plot lines seem washed away.
A cold case & a slew of suspicious death impacts 1 of their own. Wraps up a little quick, but the science makes sense & the connections were intriguing.
I still enjoy this series, mainly because of the relationships between the main characters. However, Kay is beginning to be a little TOOOOO...... She has always been a bit pompous but she's a little overbearing when she insists that everyone listen to her because, of course, she's right and they are wrong. I'm concerned that Cornwell is starting to make the characters caricatures of themselves.
What is happening to all of my favorite mystery writers?!?! This was a huge disappointment. So much minutia, the characters becoming cartoons of their former selves, Kay muttering on and on............. I made it halfway through the book, then couldn't take it anymore, skimmed to the end - and you know what? Like a soap opera, I picked right up after missing pages and didn't feel like I missed anything. Hope this is not the sign of things to come from this author, or this will be the last one I read. Bummer!
I said I'd never read another Scarpetta mystery but when I saw this in the library, I still picked it up. It actually was a bit better than her other more recent books. The technology aspect was toned down, Benson, Lucy and Marino were not as prominent in this book, there was more emphasis on medicine and science and there was a touch more discussion about cooking. Kay is still a mess, however. Still paranoid, self-involved and filled with self-loathing, still unable to communicate normally with her family and friends. The crime aspect was interesting, although a bit convoluted and the reasoning seemed a bit thin. While I think this was a step in the right direction in terms of going back to what made the older books so enjoyable, there's still work to be done.

I enjoyed this murder mystery very much. I thought I knew where it was going about 2/3 of the way through, but Ms. Cornwell threw a curve ball and surprised me at the end. I did figure out one of the mysteries but still enjoyed having the twist at the end. I need to find out how many other Dr. Kay books I've missed as I quit reading them quite a while ago because of one book I did not like, but she redeemed herself with this one.
