A lot better and more lucid than her last few works, but I found the all engrossing plot of Jaime Berger annoying, especially towards the end, because of plot twists that I shall not mention here. There is also a lot less drama between Marino, Lucy and Benton. The beginning is sort of murky, but it gets better as you read along.

I've only ever read one other Kay Scarpetta novel, On Potter's Field, years ago. I disliked it and only read this one because my son bought it for me for my birthday and I didn't want to disappoint him. Plus, who knows, it had been so long, maybe I now liked these books. Sadly for me, I still don't like them. They're written in such a frustrating way. There is a tonne of extraneous detail that really isn't necessary, whereas, some of the plotting really needs more detail. Ultimately I dislike Kay Scarpetta herself, which is unfortunate, given that she's the star of the show. Here she is in the middle of a case which is personal, and which, in real life, she would have ruined because she is actually a suspect but still manages to solve everything with her analytical mind, her scalpel and a strong gut instinct. Not for me.

really enjoyed it. x

I haven’t read a Scarpetta novel in a good 20 years when she was still in Richmond. A solid read albeit a bit longer than it needed to be.

It's been a long time since I've read a Scarpetta book and I didn't love it. Slow and kind of predictable.

Der interessante Teil passiert eigentlich erst im letzten Drittel und eine Sache ist mir auch nach Auflösung noch nicht so ganz klar, aber ansonsten nette Unterhaltung
