I've been exploring lots of bookstores around my new apartment recently and I love picking up new picture books and flipping through them in the store. The Book Hog is an adorable story and definitely a book I would have read over and over again as a child!

So cute, I loved it! Read this to my storytime kids this morning as we talked all about reading and the library!

The book hog is a hog, get it. He loves to get books, but he doesn't read them. I know something about that myself. I get most of my books from the library and I return them, but I do have my own library of about 1,000 books, maybe more than that. I have read over 4,000 books, so I read a lot, but I was shocked to see that I have about 425 books I haven't read of my own last time I counted. REally? I guess I always read the stuff from the library. This year, I have focused more on reading some of my own books. (I gave away a ton of books before I moved to Baltimore, probably about 400 and I had read those.)

Anyway, The artwork is cute, and the story is cute. It's a simple and straight forward story. There is a picture of the book hog on the toilet reading and oh how the Nephew loved that. He had to show everyone in the house that picture. So, the story has that.

It's also about learning to read. The book was fine, its a good book, it didn't blow my mind or anything.

The Book Hog loves books, they way they smell, how they feel, the pictures, the stories, etc. etc. He picks them up at bookstores, garage sales, anywhere and everywhere. But, he has a secret. I love the illustrations and the message about the power of stories and literacy and libraries. Not only is the message great, but the story and pictures are engaging and fun, too. This is a great group read aloud - be sure to enjoy the pictures! Definitely highly recommended!

A hog loves the feel, look, and scent of books, but sadly never learned how to read. A trip to the library changes that.

Just the sweetest picturebook story. You will fall right in love with the pig at the center of this gem. Book lovers need this book on their shelf.
