Helen Hoang's books amaze me.  Each one is better than the previous one.  It is a romance, complete with very hot sex, but there is so much more.  Her writing of someone on the Autism spectrum is empathetic and informative.  And her description of the hard work and all the emotions of caregiving was some of the best I've seen on the subject.

This is my first Helen Hoang book and it certainly will not be my last. I have not read a book like this that just sticks with you in a very long time. On the surface it seems like a romance novel, but it is so much more. Helen addresses issues like self-identity, autism, caregiver burnout, societal labels i.e. people with tattoos, etc, family expectations, self-love, self-care, therapy, medications and their positive influence, suicidal ideation, depression, sexual harassment in the workplace, sexual fears and expectations, and the significance of fully trusting someone you want to have meaningful intercourse with. 

This isn't just a laundry list of things that were mentioned in the story, it's merely a highlight of the profundity that dominates this book. It's such a beautiful story of love that brings two seemingly very dissimilar people together, and that love is not perfect, and (spoiler) there are second chances that are given, but it is soooo beautiful. It literally ripped my heart into pieces and put it back together. HIGHLY recommend!

Decisamente una storia intensa, triste e da leggere solo se pronti psicologicamente e non se si cerca un romanzo rosa leggero. Non ricordo infatti l'ultima volta che ho pianto così tanto per un libro. Ciò è anche probabilmente dovuto al fatto che sono riuscita facilmente ad entrare in empatia con la protagonista e sentire su di me il suo dolore.

Devo però anche dire che Quan in questo libro è fantastico e di una tenerezza assoluta, cosa che certamente aiuta sia la protagonista, sia il lettore, a superare il contenuto del libro.

Il motivo per cui non do una valutazione maggiore è la fine che avrei voluto vedere più esplorata, anche se comprendo perché l'autrice abbia optato per essa, soprattutto perché per come è stata scritta da esattamente l'idea della

perdita della percezione temporale

 This book was A LOT darker and more depressing than I thought it would be. Not really the rom-com I was expecting but still good.

I love Helen Hoang. She might be my favorite romance author. The Heart Principle had all the best parts of Hoang’s writing. It was emotional without being dramatic, lighthearted enough to make me laugh, and had the sweetest romance. The Heart Principle had slightly darker themes than either The Kiss Quotient or The Bride Test so check the content warnings if you are concerned.

Early in the book Anna has a panic attack. Her sister is emotionally abusive to her and gaslights her at least one time.

Midway through the book Anna's father suffers a huge stroke and is confined to bed/severally disabled for the rest of the book before passing away. Her father does not enjoy the process of being kept alive but her family cannot let you. The whole thing is very hard on Anna who has suicidal thoughts after her father passes.
