Without You

Marley Valentine

4.15 AVERAGE

He's driven by the need to be better, because the right people didn't tell him he was enough.

My first Marley Valentine book and I loved it. The book gets right into the story from the very first page. It's a story about a man who hasn't done anything other than lived for his now dead boyfriend and a man who feels like he hasn't done enough for his now dead brother. That sounds more complicated than saying it's a dead brother's boyfriend trope and the story is. It is filled with grief and hurt and the idea of moving on with life.

Deacon and Julian fit so well together that I am convinced they would have been endgame even if Rhett would have survived his illness.

It also felt good to have Deacon's father accept that the one breaking their family wasn't his son's death but his wife. And she was using it as an excuse to make Deacon's life miserable.

I was his older brother, but Mom wanted me to learn from him. But, no matter what I did, I always got a reprimand, a side comment of how I could do better or do more.

The way she kept saying Julian is Rhett's like he isn't a person but some thing you can claim. I wish Julian would have said something about that too apart from finally being the one to speak up for Deacon.

I am still not sure why Julian doesn't reads the letters or did Deacon reads his? Or was it just a bonus chapter for readers? What was the point of including them if we don't see the content.

(yo del futuro: cinco estrellas?!?!?!)

I don’t know where I’ve been but I’ve been living under a rock because this was my first time reading anything by @mvalentineauthor and I need her entire back log now because this book is exactly what my grieving heart needed this week!

This story starts off with Deacon returning home to bury his younger brother, Rhett. As he’s getting ready to leave and head back to Seattle, his mother ask him to drop off a box to Julian, Rhett’s boyfriend. When Deacon walks into the house, he knows something is instantly wrong. When he walks into the bedroom that Julian and Rhett shared, Julian is balled up in the middle of the bed, with his funeral clothes on, not moving or responding. From that moment on, Julian and Deacon find comfort in each other and explore where grief and new found love will take them.

My entire soul smiled, laughed, and ugly cried while I listen to this book. There were so many raw and emotional moments in this book that made it so easy for me to connect to the characters but made me want to wrap both of them in a tight hug because the pain they went through together was so real. From fighting their feelings for each other to grieving Rhett’s death while feeling guilty of how they feel for each other was top tier gold. If you want an emotional read that will leave you believing in love, read this book! Highly recommend the audio book!

This one HURT! But it hurt so good.

Oh.my.lantana.

This is hands down one of my top 5 favorite reads of 2020, thus far.

Without You is a beautiful and emotional read focusing on grief, family, finding one's self, recognizing one's value and worth, and letting love in...no matter its form and no matter the odds stacked against it.

This book gripped my heart from the very first page, and it will stay with me for a long time. I laughed. I cried. I had my heart broken. And I fell in love with Julian and Deacon.

Both heartbreaking and full of hope, Without You will be placed on my reread shelf!

I adored this book. I adored their love. Decon and Julian made space for each other and their grief so well - they just loved each other so beautifully. I was so hesitant based on the tope but I'm so glad I gave it a try! This is a new favorite.

This was so cute! I loved every bit of it.

I've read so many MM books that left me in a defeated emotional state, but this one..this one book topped them all.
Gah, I will never forget Julian and Deacon's story. This book was so tragic and heartbreaking, yet beautiful and touching. Coping with the death of a loved one is a pain you'll never get over. You just learn to live with it day by day. The pain is still there, but you just learn to grow numb from it and that's what these two experienced. Nothing else life seemed to matter much after Rhett's death. And Deacon's mom deserves the worst mother of the year award. It killed me to see how much Deacon wanted her love.

Listening to this audiobook gave me so many chills and goosebumps with every interaction they had. Teddy Hamilton has always been one of my top favorite narrators, but this was my first time listening to Tim Paige's work. They both did a magnificent job bringing these characters to life. I may have to do a re-listen because these men have some of the sexiest voices ever!
This was my first introduction to Marley's work and this woman knocked me on my *ss! What a way to be left in defeat.

4.5⭐️

It was so hard for me to put this one down but life kept getting in the way. Yuck lol. I loved this book. I would of given it 5 stars but I honestly wanted more development between Deacon and Julian. It’s very rare that I wish a book to be longer but I feel like this one should have been. I really enjoyed the back and forth at the beginning of the book and I wish that would of went on longer. I like reading more of that to feel like when they both finally break character it’s so much more worth it. I did really enjoy this story and writing. I’ll be checking out more of this author’s work☺️
