美人剑 (The Beauty's Blade) by 封刃作书 (Feng Ren Zuo Shu)

Could chalk it up to being translation issues and general unfamiliarity with the genre on my part. I only made it about 20% of the way through before DNF’ing, so entirely possible the novel stitched together a coherent plot. I found the main characters not all that compelling and their behavior ludicrous. The premise of a wuxia sapphic rivals-to-lovers with a fire-and-ice dynamic so promising, but it needs to be supported by two likeable leads, fun action sequences, and a consistent tone-of-voice, which this novel sorely lacked.

this really has everything i wanted; two amazing leads, great surrounding cast, a couple of tropes flipped on their heads (and some kept as they are, good, juicy tropes <3), and, most importantly, biting as a love language. i feel like once the main plot is introduced and explained, you're in for a good ride; there's no sudden swerving off the tracks, but there are a couple of well placed plot twists that make the ride that much better.

Pretty good enemies to lovers but I think rivals to lovers would be more applicable. Love me some evil women. Also the book is just so unapologetically gay which I appreciated, it’s also pretty short with only 50 chapters and like 202 pages (for the English translation at least). It’s a light read so I didn’t expect much but I liked it. Ending could’ve been handled better, a little anticlimactic but all in all enjoyable for me.
