Initially I thought this book might try to be a gatekeeper of Buddhism, as the title suggests. However, I believe that this is the book to recommend to people interested in understanding the core philosophy of Buddhism, the "Buddhism in a nutshell." No meditation or mindfulness practices are described, only the four truths of Dharma, in a concise yet thorough manner.

I have always been interested in understanding more about Buddhism. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse is able to present the foundations of Buddhist thought in a simple, insightful and accessible way for interested laymen to understand.

This book was gifted by a family member.

I have always been interested in Buddhist philosophy. This book does as its title says: tells me what makes me not a Buddhist. However, it does it in a simple and profound way. The foundations of Buddhism are presented here in short chapters that are engaging and easy to understand. I recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by Buddhism and wants to learn more.

This book offers a very good description of what Buddhism is (and isn't). There is a lot packed in these pages, and the book undoubtedly needs more than one reading to fully internalize the content, but it is a very understandable and relatable text on Buddhism.
