Went back and changed my rating bc the longer I thought about it, the less I liked it. I don't know how to really explain it, but there were some aspects that were just off putting. Despite that, I did still enjoy it.

It's been 24 hrs since I've finished this book and my mind is still thinking about Finn!! I tend to fall hard into books and this one was no exception.

As a plus size girlie, I was recommended this book and I really loved Avery's character and how much I could relate to some of the things she was thinking and feeling. I have read a few of the reviews mentioning Avery's size, some saying she was actually not plus size or she is mid size... etc. I think the book lacked a real description of the characters, but then again this could have been intentional so that any size girl could relate to Avery? That's how I felt reading the book anyway.

The only other thing that bugged me was the women vs women. Aside from a few exceptions, I struggled to believe so many women would hate on Avery because she was with Finn and she wasn't a size 0. The world isn't perfect but more women now stick together than ever before, so it would have been nice to see more of this!

But other than these two negative points, I really enjoyed the book and I hope that I have learn something from it. I hope that it helps someone realise that you are not defined by how you look, what your weight is or even how other people see you.

I must add that Finn is an absolute dream!

I finished this book with the epilogue and it had me in tears, happy tears! Finn is such a sweetheart and so is his 'Gramps' which really warmed my heart as his father is a jerk!! The epilogue is a look into Finn and Avery's future (9 months later) and its her 31st birthday and Finn has organised a party for her with a special surprise! And its not that it pirate themed ;)

Overall I loved the book, I'm glad I read it and I hope that Kay will come out with a follow up!! (pls)

please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
POV: dual 1st person POV
spice: several open-door spicy scenes
TWs: animal death (fish), betrayal, binge drinking, cheating, depression, emotional abuse, emotional cheating, fat shaming, manipulation, mentions of death, misogyny, narcissism, ow drama, public breakup, toxic relationships
Kink CWs: boudoir photography, choking, dirty talk, hair pulling, masturbation, oral, praise, spanking, spit as lube, squirting, stripping, β€œteach me”, wet dreams
standalone: book 1 of the Lessons in Love series
final thoughts: this book put me through the emotions ! It was almost perfect for me, and I enjoyed so much of this book. The FMC was relatable and realistic- she struggled with self esteem throughout the book while the MMC worked to build that confidence up.
The MMC was so swoony and near perfect and his cousin was amazing, I can’t wait to see if she gets her own book. I was giggling and kicking my feet loving this story up until this one specific scene that completely ruined my beautiful cinnamon-roll, golden retriever, FMC-obsessed view of the MMC and it was so hard for me to fall back in love with him after it πŸ™ƒπŸ₯΄πŸ˜¬. I needed to text a book friend for emotional support and after sleeping on it overnight I’m still mad at him LOL

The first page had me HOOKED! Kay Cove captures the hopes and dreams of every plus-size girl in relation to their dream man. Finn Harvey is every girl's perfect boyfriend and husband, treating everyone with respect. Avery, a sweet but powerful woman, becomes confident unconsciously, especially when talking about business. The side characters, like Lennox, add depth and value to the story, making us wish for friends like her. The spice levels in this book are perfect, blending steamy scenes with romance and confidence. An amazing read that everyone should pick up! πŸ“šπŸ”₯
