Roy is an activist first and writer second and it shows in the material! This is a compliment, she writes stories that are necessary and missing. Prose + use of repetition off them shits, beautifully and sickeningly vivid imagery. The story lingers still, I won’t forget it anytime soon
Graphic: Police brutality, Child abuse, Sexual assault, and Pedophilia
Moderate: Incest

‘The God of Small Things’ opens with the tragedy around which the book revolves. As a result, the joy in reading the novel lies not in the unfolding plot but in the quality and creativity of Roy’s narration.
The story flits between viewpoints across generations in a way that at first seems haphazard but leads to a cohesive whole that abounds with insights into characters, culture and the turbulent passage of time.
I enjoyed the imaginative imagery and clever deconstruction of words and concepts that is employed to express the inquisitive mind of a child.
Overall I thought this was a top notch read, though there were times where I thought Roy went into too much detail regarding Things Best Left Unsaid.

This was a hard book for me to read. It took about 100 pages before it turned into a page turner. It DID turn into a page turner!
The author skipped time lines a lot! That was hard for me to follow.
Overall, it's a great story! I'm giving it 3 stars for now just because it was not an easy read (for me). I have never had a re-read list before but I am now making one. I think I will enjoy it more the second time around.
