Here’s the piece of art that kicked off the renaissance. It’s so deeply ingrained in our culture that it was really interesting to read the whole work. It’s very challenging and makes a lot of references to history I was unfamiliar with. To get the most out of it, there’s a lecture series online from Yale that explains the cantos and the context, and that made it much more understandable! To really bring it to life, check out some of the art made by Gustave Dorè on the divine comedy as you read!

It’s a tough read, but it’s very rewarding and historically important. It’s a great choice if you’re interested in poetry or the renaissance!

I believe that the first time I read La Divina Commedia I was 12 years old, I could have been even 11. It's crazy for me to think about how I innocently read such a complex and amazingly thought work of art, and now reading it 6-7 years later, its incredible how differently I percieve Dante's work. I think the impact Dante's inferno left in me will never leave; and just how it changed me once, it has changed me again. I believe I understand everything that went on to a certain extent, and I expect for this art work to wait for me a few more years so I can read it again, and read at it through a different lense.

I'll come back for an extent of my review and re reading some cantos.
