Excellent book, one of the best I've ever read. Footnotes and canto summaries in this edition are immensely useful for the uninformed/casual reader like myself - otherwise you would not appreciate the rich references through the text. Cannot speak to the accuracy of the translation having never read the original Italian or other translations.

Not a fan of poetry. I purchased a slip cover because, like a nerd, I loved the game. I wanted to read the original source material. Inferno was interesting. Purgatorio and Praadisio were beyond boring. I didn’t even finish it. The illustrations (historical) are astounding. A nice piece to decorate my shelf

This just didn’t work for me…I gave it an extra star for the historical impact but it felt like the same tortuous ideas over and over and over. Every 5 pages I’d fall asleep again. At the time it was published I can agree it was life changing but now it’s so heavily used in society that a person could skip reading it and still understand the full importance.
