Pinhead: Burn in hell? Ah, such a limited imagination.
Dante: Hold my wine.
In terms of interesting story and description Inferno > Purgatory > Paradise. I would recommend getting an annotated version so you know what people and events he's actually referring to.

I would have had a better go with this poem had I read it in school. There is so much analysis that can go into this work. My rating has more to do with my attention span than its merit.
I cannot deny the significance of this work in speaking against the politics and philosophies of the time. Alighieri believed in basically the separation of church and state.
Virgil, the poet who Alighieri admired, is the one who accompanies him through his spiritual journey through hell and purgatory. The journey through hell begins on Good Friday and they make it to purgatory on Easter Sunday. Beatrice, Alighieri's ideal woman, guides him through heaven. It ends with Alighieri basking in God's light and being so taken that he cannot express or adequately remember what he saw and experienced.

A classic for a reason!
First read The Divine Comedy in high school and I've loved it ever since!

I mean can I give it anything other than 5 stars?
Like the title says--what else would I give it? Although and artistic representation of the world to come after this, it certainly presents meditations worth having. I enjoyed this read with Dr. Robert Royal's online seminar class in three sections and it was a lot of time well spent.

Dante > Shakespeare
(Using this as a placeholder cover as there is no compiled Sayers translation. My second read of this will be Ciardi's, so this can patiently wait until then.)
