Read this for a college course and then reread Inferno in 2021. I'm a huge Dante fan. He's my cringefail queen or whatever. And I hold this story with me a lot in dark times. I'm not a Christian; in fact, Dante would definitely think I was doomed to hell, but as I always say, if I only read books written by people who didn't hate Jews, I wouldn't be able to read almost anything. But I do hold this story with me, the story of going down into the dark holding the hand of your favorite poet, facing the terrible things in your own soul, and letting love and a desire to see the rest of your life and be a better person push you forth until you once again see the stars. And if, along the way, you have some Wacky Misadventures and put your middle finger up at some preps, even better.

Sorry I had to laugh sometimes

São 100 cantos. Os 34 primeiros são no Inferno, os 33 seguintes no Purgatório, os 33 seguintes no Paraíso. A parte do Inferno é bem divertida. Dante encontra seus desafetos políticos e assim vai desfiando diatribes. O Purgatório é bem mais ou menos, e o Paraíso é um SACO, só exaltação repetitiva.

I get why Dante's Inferno is more commonly referenced than Purgatorio or Paradiso, it's the only interesting book - the only recognizable references & creatures, & far more creative imagery in the suffering than in the exhaltations... but I imagine that a great deal is lost in translating an epic poem from it's original language
