I was so scared to finish this book. I almost quit because I couldn’t bear the idea of the sad ending I imagined.

I’m so glad that I stuck it out. The ending wasn’t what I expected at all (although some might see through it more easily) and it wasn’t happy but it was very satisfying. Henry’s last pages had me near tears.

I think the concept of the plot is really creative, and the author keeps track of a thousand little details of Addie’s curse that could’ve created a thousand plot holes.

At times it was predictable, but not in a way that spoiled my enjoyment.
I knew almost right away that Henry had also made a deal, but there were plenty of details I didn’t foresee, too.

This book made me  want to savor every moment of life and love. It was entertaining but also thought provoking and heart-fire stoking.

This is my first V.E. Schwab and I'm already so excited to read more from her. I loved so much about this book: the dual timelines were well-executed, the characters were likeable and complex, the prose was delicious, and the love story was endearing. I had heard mixed reviews about this book so I wasn't sure how I would feel, but I had a really great time. I understand why some people dislike this one and I echo the points made about a lack of diversity among the characters (don't tell me Addie goes 300 years and only meets one Black person). This one comment, however, was not nearly enough to mar my overall experience.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who thinks the synopsis sounds good. It may seem long at first glance but it never felt a drag to get through and I could have easily read another 100-200 pages of this story. What a delightful read.

I like the premise. However, the execution wasn't for me. I felt it was way too long.  It also felt repetitive, but I guess that is par for the course when a character is immediately forgotten. I did enjoy having a different look on the idea of leaving a lasting mark on the world. My main problem while reading this was that I didn't really feel connected to the main character Addie. I felt more connected to Henry. I almost felt he had it worse. Who cares if people can remember you if they don't remember the real you?

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue Review

“Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives--or to find strength in a very long one” - V E Schwab 📖

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.75 Stars

This was a beautiful story, I can see why it is so well loved. It felt like a poem or a love letter. I really was sucked into Addies life. V E Schwab is just magical with words. ✍🏻

I struggled for a good 20% as it was just pretty slow, with not much going on. I’m not sure I would’ve pushed through if I didn’t have the audiobook. But out of nowhere I just fell in love with Addie, I couldn’t let her go. ❤️‍🩹

The plot isn’t anything mind blowing and it definitely was longer than necessary. But I just felt so many emotions, heads up to check TWs! Henry was top tier, we waited a long time for him but his character was great. 👀

Moments of this book felt like something special and other moments felt lack lustre. The ending, for example, was a perfectly heart wrenching bundle of words. Yet it was thrown off, mainly due to Luc’s character being so underdeveloped, I don’t think it hit the way intended for me. 🙈

I get the hype, it’s like nothing else I’ve read. It deserved to be perfect…

A reflective book about the meaning of life and what it means to be satisfied. Quite long and the modern day parts are much more interesting than Addie's historical adventures.

Addie’s deal with a dark god lets her walk away from the life she was being forced to live but every deal comes with a cost. She is doomed to be forgotten by everyone she meets and for hundreds of years, she wanders, soaking in the ever changing world and doing her best to leave whatever marks she can. Her only companion is the dark god who cursed her- Luc, she calls him- until she meets Henry who somehow remembers her and is harboring his own secrets.

Finishing this book is the most exquisite heartbreak. The last quarter or so absolutely flies by and I found myself getting choked up waiting to see what was going to happen. I’m thrilled with the outcome despite my shattered heart. I particularly love
that Addie’s spirit is not broken even after she has successfully bargained for Henry’s deal to be broken. He immortalizes her the best way he can and she continues on with her new game of getting Luc to tire of her.
