Very brief reflection of the author’s thoughts after losing her father. I would have liked to learn more about her father when he was alive. He is once kidnapped and held for ransom years before his death and this story is only mentioned in passing.

"laughter is a part of grief..."
very short story, but still a profoundly beautiful tribute to Adichie's late father.

Every once in a while you read something on a page that was already in your heart, but you're seeing it outside yourself. Although the circumstances are different, the language of grief is the same. Chimamanda is always eloquent, but here she is at her most personal. A must read for anyone whose life has been irreversibly altered by loss.

A poignant account of the intricacies of grief… Chimamanda never fails to put my innermost thoughts into words.

I always love Adichie's ways with words. She put into words what I could not.
