"His humor, already dry, crisped deliciously as he aged."

"I weep and weep, and wish that...grief was not about the utter impossibility of return."

"It is an act of resistance and refusal: grief telling you it is over and your heart saying it is not; grief trying to shrink your love to the past and your heart saying it is present."

Not a book to read on public transport for will make you weep. Beautiful writing, and a loving, warm eulogy of a man you kind of end up wishing you knew as well.

"No sabemos cómo viviremos el dolor hasta que la pena nos alcance"...

I bought this on the day my father died, thinking that despite her dubious comments on trans people, I've always enjoyed Adichie's way with words, and that perhaps her words on grief might help my siblings. However, this is not an inspirational quote book, nor is it about a philosophy of grief. It is Adichie's memories of her father. I enjoyed the stories, but for someone who does not know (or care) about the author and her context, there is little on grief a such.

There’s a line in this book that hit me like a tonne of bricks —-> “The layers of loss make life feel papery thin” , couldn’t have said it better. Nice and short book ❤️
