If you like S. E. Phillips, you'll like this book. It was a light and breezy read.

I enjoyed the banter in this story, sometimes laughing out loud at the characters' dialogue.

Memorable quote:

Disappointing, because so many wrong notes. There’s all this white savior stuff. And, uh, someone on a sexual harassment task force ought to know that sleeping people don’t want tea. There’s a false rape accusation that didn’t play well, and then the mystery stuff gets in the way of the romance. Whiplash changes in tone, as the normally lighthearted author suddenly gets into modern slavery and human trafficking and then back to a second time around romance subplot involving a hat that looks like a huge block of cheese. Still, the gooey romance was lovely and I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it.

DNF. Had high hopes for this book. Big let down.

Oh my gosh, I just couldn't stand these two, particularly Cooper. Something about the way it was written just felt so forced. I hate when authors think that sexual tension is supposed to equal romance. DNF almost 1/2 way through when they are about to have "pure physical need" sex even though the "hate each other". So annoyed.

Not my favorite Susan Elizabeth Phillips of all time but a fun, fast read. She usually has several plots running through her romances but it felt like there were one or two too many "big happenings" in this one. Also loved the male protagonist in this but I thought the lady lead wasn't her strongest. Great to revisit the Chicago Stars universe, though — makes me want to go back and reread the others in the series!
